2022-2023 Auditions

Actors Auditioning with scripts in hand

What you need to know

Thank you for your interest in working with SPL. We hope you can join the team as we workshop exciting new plays by some of Spokane’s finest playwrights. We are hosting auditions for our 2022-2023 season. The details and audition request forms are below. For more information, please click here.

When: August 21th, 2022. Auditions will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Please sign up for your 10-minute individual audition below.

Where: The CLUTCH Spokane – 1507 E Sprague, Spokane, WA 99202. (Street Parking Available)

What to prepare: We are hosting two different styles of auditions this season. Our morning audition times are reserved for musical theatre auditions. To be considered for our musical workshop this season (as well as all other workshops), please reserve an audition time between 9:00am – 1:00pm. Otherwise, please sign up for our standard auditions from 1:00pm – 5:00pm. (Please only sign up for ONE audition appointment.)

Musical Auditions:

Please reserve an audition time between 9:00am – 1:00pm. We ask you to prepare a verse and chorus of a song from a musical of your choosing (roughly 60-90 seconds of music). We will provide you with an accompanist.

If you are unable to procure or prepare sheet music ahead of the audition, our accompanist has three prepared pieces you may choose from. If you would like to use one of these pieces, please choose the appropriate song for your vocal range from the options below:

Mezzo/Soprano

In addition to the prepared song you will be asked to read a scene with our designated reader. Depending on the situation, we may also have a short interview with you. These are always very friendly and informal. Dress comfortably to move. Headshots and resumes are welcome, but not required.

If you choose to do the musical audition, you will also be considered for all non-musical workshops as well. You do not need to sign up for the afternoon Standard auditions.

Non-Musical Auditions:

Please reserve an audition time between 1:00pm – 5:00pm. Do not bring any pre-prepared materials. During your audition we will ask you to cold read a monologue and then read a scene with a designated reader. Depending on the situation, we may also have a short interview with you. These are always very friendly and informal. Dress comfortably to move. Headshots and resumes are welcome, but not required.

Why: The nature of our work is different from other theatre entities. The scripts we are developing are, obviously, not finished yet. As the work is constantly evolving, we are looking for actors who are able to interpret text quickly, make bold decisions, and are comfortable working in a dynamic creative environment. If that sound exciting to you, we would love to meet you.

What Else?

Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes prior to your audition. When you arrive for your audition, our team will check you in, provide you with your audition materials, and answer any questions you may have. You may wait quietly in the lobby until your audition time.

If you are uncomfortable with or unable to attend an in-person audition, please contact Scott at scott@spokaneplaywrightslaboratory.com to arrange a remote audition.
